The biggest difference: 50% of your Bihar Board paper is objective (MCQs). This means 50 marks are available just from choosing the right option. If you prepare MCQs well, you secure half the paper before writing a single long answer.
Subject-Wise Strategy
Mathematics (100 marks)
Bihar Board Maths follows NCERT but the question style differs:
Objective section (50 marks): 50 MCQs covering all chapters. These are direct formula-based. If you know the formula, you get the mark. Focus on:
- All formulas for Area, Volume, Surface Area
- Trigonometric ratios and identities
- Coordinate geometry formulas (distance, midpoint, area of triangle)
- Probability basics
Subjective section (50 marks): Short answer (2 marks), long answer (5 marks), and very long answer (8 marks). Focus on:
- Quadratic equations (solving and word problems)
- Arithmetic Progression (nth term and sum)
- Trigonometry (heights and distances)
- Statistics (mean, median, mode from grouped data)
- Geometry proofs (circles, triangles)
Science (100 marks)
Split across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology:
Physics (highest scoring if you practice numericals):
- Light (reflection, refraction, lens formula) - carries the most marks
- Electricity (Ohm's law, resistance, power) - numericals are straightforward
- Magnetic effects of current
Chemistry:
- Chemical reactions and equations (balancing is essential)
- Acids, bases, and salts
- Carbon and its compounds
- Periodic table trends
Biology:
- Life processes (nutrition, respiration, transportation, excretion)
- Control and coordination (nervous system, hormones)
- Reproduction (human and plant)

Hindi (100 marks)
Hindi is unique to Bihar Board. The textbook is different from CBSE:
- Godhuli Part 2: Prose and poetry sections. Learn bhavarth (meanings) of poems.
- Varnika Part 2: Supplementary reader stories.
- Grammar: sandhi, samas, muhavare, vakya shuddhi
- Letter writing (patra lekhan) and essay (nibandh) are guaranteed 15-20 marks
Social Science (100 marks)
- History: Indian independence movement, Bihar's role in freedom struggle
- Geography: Resources, agriculture, Bihar's geography specifically
- Political Science: Democracy, federalism, political parties

The 50-Mark MCQ Strategy
Since half your paper is MCQs, here is how to maximize that section:
- Read each chapter once fully before practicing MCQs
- Solve 20 MCQs per chapter from previous year papers
- Mark the ones you got wrong and revise those concepts
- Time yourself: 50 MCQs in 60 minutes = 1.2 minutes per question
- Never leave an MCQ blank: There is no negative marking in BSEB. Guess if you must.
Common Mistakes Bihar Board Students Make
- Studying only subjective, ignoring objective: 50 marks are MCQs. Many students lose 15-20 marks here because they did not practice.
- Not reading the Bihar Board textbook: Some chapters have content different from NCERT. The examiner follows the BSEB textbook.
- Writing too much in short answers: A 2-mark answer needs 3-4 lines, not a full page.
- Messy handwriting in Maths: Steps must be clearly written. The examiner cannot give marks for work they cannot read.
- Ignoring diagrams in Science: Labeled diagrams carry 2-3 marks each.
