The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducts the SSC exam for Class 10 students every year in March. Over 17 lakh students appear for this exam, making it one of the largest state board exams in India.

Important: Science is split into two papers — Part I (Physics and Chemistry) and Part II (Biology). Each part has 40 marks of theory. This is unique to Maharashtra Board.

What Makes Maharashtra Board Different

1. Activity-based questions: Maharashtra Board papers include questions based on lab activities. For example, "Describe the activity to show that acids react with metals to produce hydrogen gas."

2. Diagram-heavy Science paper: Unlike CBSE, Maharashtra Board places higher emphasis on diagrams. A well-drawn, labeled diagram can carry 3-4 marks.

3. Marathi is compulsory: Even in English medium schools, Marathi is a mandatory subject. Do not neglect it.

4. No Section-wise choice: In CBSE, you can choose which questions to attempt in some sections. Maharashtra Board gives less internal choice — you must prepare all topics.

Common Mistakes Maharashtra Board Students Make

1. Using NCERT instead of Balbharati: The exam is based on Balbharati textbooks. NCERT is supplementary, not primary.

2. Neglecting Activity-based questions: These carry 4-6 marks in Science and are based on textbook activities. Read the activity descriptions in your textbook.

3. Poor diagram quality: Maharashtra Board values diagrams highly. Use a pencil, draw neatly, label clearly. A messy diagram loses marks.
