Frequently Asked Questions

What is the passing marks for TN HSC?

35 marks in the theory component of each subject. For subjects with practicals (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), 35 marks in the 70-mark theory paper.

Is TN HSC harder than CBSE?

Different, not harder. TN HSC has a different syllabus and question pattern. TN Board questions tend to be more direct and textbook-based. CBSE has more application-based questions.

Where can I get previous year TN HSC papers?

DGE Tamil Nadu releases previous year papers at dge.tn.gov.in. Also available in Sura, Guide, and other TN Board publications.

Does TN HSC score affect NEET/JEE eligibility?

Yes. You must pass TN HSC with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths/Biology to be eligible for JEE/NEET. The percentage doesn't directly affect JEE/NEET rank but affects college admission through state quota.

What is the TN Engineering Entrance (TNEA)?

TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) uses only Class 12 marks — no separate entrance exam. Higher HSC percentage = better TNEA rank. This makes HSC marks extremely important for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu.

Where can I check the latest official information?

Use the official sources listed at the end of this guide: DGE Tamil Nadu, TN HSC timetable 2027, TN HSC previous year papers. Dates and rules can change, so check the latest notice there before you act on anything here.
