In short: Maharashtra HSC Commerce exams for 2027 run from February 8 to March 16. The Commerce stream covers three core subjects: Book-Keeping & Accountancy (BK), Economics, and Organisation of Commerce and Management (OCM — unique to Maharashtra Board). Each subject follows the 80+20 pattern (80 marks theory + 20 marks internal). This guide provides chapter-wise important questions for all three subjects, focusing on the question types that the Maharashtra Board repeats most frequently.
Maharashtra HSC Commerce — What Makes It Different
Maharashtra Board Commerce has several unique features compared to CBSE:
-
OCM (Organisation of Commerce and Management) — This subject exists only in Maharashtra Board. It covers business environment, management principles, trade, banking, insurance, and emerging modes of business. CBSE does not have an equivalent single subject.
-
Book-Keeping & Accountancy — Similar to CBSE Accountancy but with some different chapter organisation and question patterns. Maharashtra emphasises single entry system and branch accounts alongside standard partnership and company accounts.
-
80+20 Pattern — 80 marks for theory (3-hour paper) and 20 marks for internal assessment (projects, assignments, oral exams).
-
Question Paper Structure — All subjects follow a standard pattern: Section I (MCQs and very short answers), Section II (short answers with internal choice), Section III (long answers with internal choice).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is OCM scoring or difficult compared to other Commerce subjects?
OCM is widely considered the most scoring Commerce subject in Maharashtra HSC. It is entirely theory-based with no numericals, and questions follow very predictable patterns. Students who prepare consumer rights, principles of management, and e-commerce chapters thoroughly can score 60+ out of 80 easily.
How is Maharashtra BK different from CBSE Accountancy?
Maharashtra BK includes chapters on Single Entry System and Branch Accounts, which are not in the standard CBSE Accountancy syllabus. The partnership and company accounts portions are similar. Maharashtra BK also has a different question paper pattern with more variety in question types (give reasons, distinguish between).
Which subject should I study first for the Commerce exams?
Start with BK & Accountancy since it requires the most practice time (numerical problems). Then Economics (mix of theory and numericals). Save OCM for last since it is theory-based and can be revised quickly. However, begin OCM revision at least 10 days before the exam.
How many previous year papers should I solve?
Solve at least the last 5 years of Maharashtra Board papers for each subject. Pay attention to repeated question patterns, especially in OCM where the same scenarios are often reworded. Board papers are available on the MSBSHSE website.
Can I write answers in a mix of English and Marathi?
If you are in the English medium, write entirely in English. If you are in the Marathi medium, write in Marathi. Maharashtra Board does not award marks for mixed-language answers. Choose the medium you are most comfortable with and be consistent.
What is the passing criteria for Maharashtra HSC Commerce?
You need a minimum of 35% in each subject (28 out of 80 in theory + proportionate internal marks). For overall pass, you need 35% aggregate. Failing in one or two subjects allows you to appear for supplementary exams.
