JEE Main 2027 Documents Required — Photo, Signature Size and Upload Checklist

JEE Main 2027 documents checklist: photo and signature size in kB, Class 10 PDF, UDID and other uploads, live photo rules and how to prepare each file.

In short: For JEE Main 2027 Session 1 you upload a colour photograph (JPG, 10 to 200 kB), a signature (JPG, 10 to 100 kB) and your Class 10 certificate or marksheet (PDF, 50 to 300 kB). Candidates who need them also upload a disability or UDID certificate, a certificate of physical limitation to write, or a non-Indian passport. A live photograph is taken inside the form, and a scanned Aadhaar or photo-ID upload was reported as removed this year. The deadline is November 22, 2026. This guide gives you the exact specifications and a simple way to prepare each file in under 30 minutes.

Last updated: October 28, 2026. Specifications are from the NTA Information Bulletin as reported by Aakash and Careers360.

Photograph Rules

The uploaded photograph and the live photograph follow the same face rules.

RuleRequirement
TypeRecent passport-size photograph, in colour
BackgroundWhite
Face visibility80% of the face visible, ears included
MaskNot allowed
Format and sizeJPG/JPEG, 10 kB to 200 kB
Whose photoYour own, not anybody else's
LegibilityClearly legible

How the live photograph works

Turn on your webcam, or scan the QR code in the form with a phone or tablet. The form shows buttons to capture, upload and refresh the photo, and a message confirms when the image is saved.

NTA then compares this photo with the one on your DigiLocker account. If they match, you continue. If not, you can recapture or proceed with a mismatch, and the bulletin warns that your candidature can be cancelled in future if impersonation is detected (Careers360).

Class 10 Certificate Rules

Upload your Class 10 or equivalent certificate or marksheet as a PDF between 50 and 300 kB. Make sure your name and date of birth are clearly visible, since verification compares them with the details fetched from your account.

How to Prepare Each File in 30 Minutes

These are general tips, not NTA instructions.

Photograph (10 minutes)

  1. Stand facing a plain white wall in daylight. Remove your mask and keep hair off your ears.
  2. Ask someone to take a straight-on photo at eye level.
  3. Crop to a passport-style frame and save as JPG.
  4. Check the file size. If it is above 200 kB, reduce the quality or dimensions slightly.

Signature (5 minutes)

  1. Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen.
  2. Photograph it straight from above, or scan it.
  3. Crop tightly around the signature and save as JPG.
  4. Check that the size is between 10 and 100 kB.

Class 10 PDF (10 minutes)

  1. Scan the certificate with a phone scanning app, flat and well lit.
  2. Save as a single-page PDF.
  3. If it is above 300 kB, lower the scan quality or use a PDF compressor, then confirm the text is still readable.
  4. If it is below 50 kB, rescan at a higher quality.

Final check (5 minutes)

Right-click each file and read its size in kB. Open every file once to confirm nothing is blurred, cut off or rotated.

Size Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
Photo is above 200 kBReduce the resolution or save at lower JPG quality
Photo is below 10 kBThe image is too small. Retake at a higher resolution
Signature is above 100 kBCrop tighter and reduce quality
PDF is above 300 kBCompress the PDF or scan in grayscale at lower quality
PDF is below 50 kBRescan at a higher quality
Upload failsCheck the file extension is exactly JPG/JPEG or PDF as required

Is a Category Certificate Needed to Upload?

The upload list reported from the bulletin does not include a category certificate. That does not mean you can ignore it. Admission and counselling stages generally ask for category proof later, so keep your certificate ready. This is general advice, not a rule from the 2027 bulletin. Check the counselling authority's document list when counselling begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What documents are required for the JEE Main 2027 application form?

You upload a passport-size photograph (JPG, 10 to 200 kB), a signature (JPG, 10 to 100 kB) and your Class 10 certificate or marksheet (PDF, 50 to 300 kB). A live photograph is taken inside the form. Extra documents apply only to PwD/PwBD candidates and foreign nationals.

What is the size limit for the JEE Main 2027 photo and signature?

The photograph must be 10 kB to 200 kB in JPG/JPEG format. The signature must be 10 kB to 100 kB in JPG/JPEG format. The Class 10 PDF must be 50 kB to 300 kB.

Do I need to upload my Aadhaar card for JEE Main 2027?

Careers360 reports that the scanned Aadhaar or valid photo-ID upload was removed. Your identity details are fetched through MeriPehchaan from DigiLocker, JanParichay or e-Pramaan.

Is the live photograph the same as the uploaded photograph?

No. You provide both. The live photo is captured inside the form using a webcam or the QR code on a phone, and you also upload a passport-size photograph. Both must show at least 80% of your face including your ears, with no mask.

Who needs to upload a UDID or disability certificate?

PwD/PwBD candidates. UDID details are checked against the government's UDID portal, and candidates without a UDID card upload a disability certificate instead. A separate certificate of physical limitation to write applies only where relevant.

Can I change my photo after submitting the form?

Only during the correction window from November 27 to 29, 2026, and only if NTA opens that field. See our step-by-step form guide for the timeline.
