VITEEE vs SRMJEEE vs MET 2027 — Which Is Worth It?

Compare VITEEE, SRMJEEE and MET 2027: patterns, negative marking, dates, closing ranks, and a cost check, with source conflicts flagged so you can verify them.

In short: These three private-university tests differ more than their names suggest. VITEEE 2027 is open now (registration since October 20, last date March 31, exam April 27 to May 2, reported tentative) with 100 questions in 2 hours and +4 / -1 marking. SRMJEEE is the gentlest to take: 130 one-mark questions with no negative marking, in up to three phases, with 2027 dates not yet published. MET reportedly has 60 questions with +4 / -1 on MCQs and no penalty on numerical answers, and its application deadline is reported as March 15 by some sources and March 31 by another. I compared them on pattern, dates, closing ranks and cost. I could not verify placements, so I do not rank colleges on them.

Last updated: October 28, 2026. Dates and patterns will be updated when SRM and Manipal publish their 2027 notices.

Total100120 minutes

Careers360's news report says VIT revised the pattern and syllabus this year, added sectional time limits, removed age limits, and added test centres at Chirala, Ongole, Mapusa, Vijayawada, Bilaspur and Cuttack. It also says there is no break and that you may sit VITEEE only once. Careers360 notes VIT introduced negative marking last year.

SRMJEEE 2027

SubjectQuestions
Physics35

Total130

Careers360 says each question has four options, there is no negative marking, and the exam is conducted in up to three phases, with Rs 1,400 payable for each phase you take. It says SRM issues no official answer key and coaching centres publish unofficial ones.

I checked the totals. 60 questions at 4 marks each gives 240, and the section marks add up to 240.

MET120602.00

VITEEE's Mathematics window works out to 1.25 minutes per question, Physics and Chemistry to 1.20, and English with Aptitude to 1.00. In VITEEE you cannot borrow time across sections, per the section limits Careers360 reports.

Pattern conflicts with our older college reviews

VITEEE100 questions, 2 hours, +4 and -1, fee Rs 1,450125 MCQs, 2 hours 30 minutes, +1 and no negative marking, fee Rs 1,350

The older posts were written before VIT announced its revised pattern on October 20 to 21. For MET, I only have a third-party page that says the 2027 format will follow 2026, so I cannot say which description is right for 2027. Use the official brochure to settle it.

What Negative Marking Means for Your Attempts

VITEEE: +4 and -1

A guess pays off only if you have more than a 20% chance of being right. The table is arithmetic on the scheme, with all 100 questions attempted or the stated number of attempts:

AttemptsAccuracyScore out of 400
10090%350
10080%300
10070%250
10060%200
8090%280
8080%240

Take an illustration. Suppose you are sure of 70 answers and have a one-in-four chance on the other 30. Leaving them blank gives 280. Guessing them all gives an expected 287.5, a gain of 7.5 marks with some risk of doing worse. The edge is small, so guess only where you have narrowed the options.

SRMJEEE: +1, no penalty

Leave nothing blank. As an illustration, if you know 91 answers and guess the other 39 with a 25% chance each, you expect about 100.75 marks, against 91 if you leave them blank.

MET: split rules

For MCQs the break-even chance is also 20%. For numerical questions there is no negative marking, so always enter an answer.

Aakash (October 7, for 2026)Last date for 2026 Phase 1 was March 15, 2026

I only saw search summaries of the Jagran Josh pages, because the site blocked a full read. The safe plan is to treat March 15 as the deadline until the official notice says otherwise.

Date errors inside the sources

Careers360's VITEEE news pages carry typos such as "October 20, 2027" for the start date. The news report and the table both say registration began on October 20, 2026, so I used that.

Closing Ranks: What the Tables Say

VITEEE (previous year, year not stated)

Careers360's table gives closing ranks for Computer Science by VIT's fee category. The page does not label the year or the unit in its header row, so use it only for shape.

Campus and programmeCat 1Cat 2Cat 3Cat 4Cat 5
Vellore, CSE9503,50019,00022,00025,500
Vellore, CSE with specialisations2,8009,00023,00027,00031,000
Chennai, CSE8,00014,00025,00029,00034,000
Chennai, CSE with specialisations11,50020,50026,00032,00042,000

Two readings from my arithmetic. Vellore CSE in Category 5 closes at a rank 26.8 times higher than in Category 1 (25,500 / 950). Chennai CSE Category 1 closes 8.4 times higher than Vellore's (8,000 / 950). I could not tell from the page how the categories are priced, so I cannot say what each category costs.

Careers360's cutoff FAQ notes that VIT has not published cutoffs in past years. Treat the figures as third-party estimates.

SRMJEEE (Chennai campus, per Careers360)

Course2024 closing rank2025 closing rank
Computer Science9,500 to 10,5008,000 to 9,000
Electronics and Communication26,700 to 27,20022,000 to 27,000
Electrical and Electronics39,000 to 40,00025,000 to 34,000
Aerospace51,500 to 52,50048,000 to 50,500
Civil69,000 to 70,00058,000 to 67,000

Using the midpoints, Computer Science fell from 10,000 to 8,500, a 15% drop in the closing rank (my calculation). A community answer on Careers360 says the main campus closes CSE specialisations roughly between 6,000 and 11,000. That is not an official figure.

MET (Round 1 closing ranks, per Aakash)

BranchRound 1 closing rank
Mathematics and Computing2,821
Computer Science3,441
Computer Science and Financial Technology3,629
Electronics and Communication3,695
Electrical and Electronics6,437
Aeronautical6,755
VLSI Design7,501
Mechatronics9,829
Biotechnology12,393

Aakash links a Manipal PDF titled for the 2026 counselling. Biotechnology closes at 3.6 times Computer Science's rank (12,393 / 3,441).

A caution on comparing the three

Ranks from different exams are not comparable. A VITEEE rank of 8,000, an SRMJEEE rank of 8,000 and a MET rank of 8,000 come from different candidate pools and different tests. Compare each exam's table with your own mock results for that exam.

Cost: Sources Disagree

I could not open the official fee pages for any of the three. What the sources I saw say:

SourceClaim
Our VIT reviewRs 2 to 3 lakh a year for VIT Vellore
A Quora answer (unverified, search summary)Rs 1.6 to 2.5 lakh a year at VIT Vellore and Chennai, general category
Our Manipal reviewAbout Rs 2.25 lakh tuition a year, and Rs 15 to 16 lakh in total for four years with hostel
Free Job Alert (search summary)SRM Kattankulathur about Rs 3.5 to 5 lakh a year, with a four-year total of Rs 14 to 16 lakh

The Free Job Alert figures do not agree with each other. Four years at Rs 3.5 lakh is Rs 14 lakh, but four years at Rs 5 lakh is Rs 20 lakh, so a total of Rs 14 to 16 lakh covers only part of the stated range (my arithmetic).

How to work out your own number

StepWhat to do
1Get the branch-wise annual fee from the official fee page for your campus and category
2Multiply by four
3Add hostel, mess and travel
4Allow for yearly increases, which our VIT review says are 10 to 15% by the fourth year
5Check scholarship and fee-category rules in the brochure before you assume a discount

Which One Is Worth It for You?

I cannot rank these three colleges for you, and I have not verified placement data. The right choice depends on your rank, budget and the other exams you are writing.

Your situationWorth considering
You want the lowest-penalty examSRMJEEE: +1, no negative marking
You are comfortable with negative marking and want one sittingVITEEE: one attempt, 100 questions
You want two chancesMET lists two phases, and SRMJEEE up to three, each with its own fee
Your JEE Main prep is solidAll three overlap with it. Check each syllabus for the extras
You are watching total costCompare the four-year total by branch and category before you pay any exam fee
You are still waiting for results of other examsKeep this as a backup list. Do not let it delay JEE Main

Do not skip the main exams

JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration closes on November 22 and Session 2 is tentatively early April, per the dates I have collected. Our JEE Main form guide covers the steps. For the test that sits alongside these, see BITSAT 2027.

A Simple Plan to Prepare for All Three

This is my suggested plan, not an official one. The syllabus overlap is large, but check each official syllabus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is VITEEE 2027 open for registration?

Yes, per Careers360. VIT opened the online application on October 20, 2026, and the last date is March 31, 2027. The fee reported is Rs 1,450 and it is non-refundable. Apply only at viteee.vit.ac.in.

What is the VITEEE 2027 pattern?

100 MCQs in 2 hours for 400 marks: Mathematics or Biology 40, Physics 25, Chemistry 25, English 5 and Aptitude 5. Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong one costs 1. Each section has its own time limit.

Does SRMJEEE have negative marking?

No. Careers360 says each correct answer earns 1 mark and wrong answers carry no penalty. The exam has 130 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes, and the fee is Rs 1,400 per phase.

What is the MET deadline?

Sources disagree. Free Job Alert and a Jagran Josh headline say March 15, 2027, while another Jagran Josh summary says March 31. Treat March 15 as the deadline until Manipal's notice says otherwise.

Which exam is easiest?

Easiest depends on you, and I have no data comparing difficulty. SRMJEEE has no penalty for wrong answers, which makes it the most forgiving on mistakes. VITEEE punishes guessing more, and MET splits its rules between MCQs and numericals.

Is one rank better than another?

Ranks from different exams are not comparable. Compare closing ranks only within the same exam. The tables above are third-party figures with unclear years and rounds.

Can I apply to all three?

The sources I read do not forbid it, and each runs its own application. VITEEE can be taken only once. Compare their dates first, since the VITEEE window of April 27 to May 2 and the MET and SRMJEEE phases fall in the same stretch.
