• You love reading, writing, debating, or analyzing society

The Questions You Should Actually Ask

Instead of "which stream has more scope?", ask yourself:

1. Which subjects did I enjoy studying, not just score well in? Enjoying a subject means you will sustain effort for 2 years. Scoring well from memorization does not mean you enjoyed it.

2. What does my daily study routine look like? Science needs 3-4 hours daily. Commerce needs 2-3 hours. Arts needs 1.5-2 hours of focused reading. Be honest about your capacity.

3. Am I choosing this for myself or for my parents? A Commerce student averaging 85% has more career doors open than a Science student averaging 55%. Forced choices lead to poor performance.

4. What do I want to do at 25? You do not need a complete answer. But a general direction (doctor, businessperson, government officer, creative professional) helps narrow the stream.

5. Can I handle the financial cost? Science with coaching costs ₹1-3 lakh per year for JEE/NEET preparation. Commerce and Arts have minimal extra costs.

What If You Choose Wrong?

It is fixable. Not ideal, but fixable.

• Science to Commerce: Easy switch after Class 12. Many students do this for BBA/MBA.
• Science to Arts: Possible. You can appear for UPSC or law entrance after any stream.
• Commerce to Science: Very difficult. JEE/NEET require Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology from Class 11-12.
• Arts to Science: Nearly impossible without repeating Class 11.
