The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) conducts the Class 10 board exam for over 12 lakh students every year. Despite being one of the largest state boards in India, Rajasthan Board students have far fewer online study resources compared to CBSE or even Bihar Board students.
This guide is written specifically for RBSE students.
RBSE Class 10 Exam Pattern 2027
| Subject | Total Marks | Theory | Internal | Exam Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hindi | 100 | 80 | 20 | 3.25 hours |
| English | 100 | 80 | 20 | 3.25 hours |
| Mathematics | 100 | 80 | 20 | 3.25 hours |
| Science | 100 | 80 | 20 | 3.25 hours |
| Social Science | 100 | 80 | 20 | 3.25 hours |
| Sanskrit/Urdu/other third language | 100 | 80 | 20 | 3.25 hours |
Note: RBSE gives 3 hours 15 minutes per paper, which is more than CBSE (3 hours). Use this extra time wisely for revision and neat presentation.
What Makes RBSE Different from CBSE
| Aspect | RBSE | CBSE |
|---|---|---|
| Textbooks | RBSE prescribed (Rajasthan Rajya Pathya Pustak Mandal) | NCERT |
| Medium | Hindi and English (most students in Hindi medium) | Primarily English |
| MCQ weightage | Varies by subject (20-30%) | Fixed 20 marks per paper |
| Exam duration | 3 hours 15 minutes | 3 hours |
| State-specific content | Rajasthan history, geography, culture | Pan-India content |
| Passing marks | 33% | 33% |
Important: RBSE textbooks have content that differs from NCERT, especially in Social Science (Rajasthan-specific chapters on history, geography, and economics) and Hindi (different prose and poetry selections). Do not study from NCERT alone.
Subject-Wise Strategy
Mathematics
Rajasthan Board Maths is moderately difficult. The emphasis is on step-by-step solutions.
High-scoring chapters:
- Quadratic Equations — always carries 5-8 marks
- Statistics (mean, median, mode) — straightforward if you know formulas
- Trigonometry — identity proofs and heights-and-distances problems
- Coordinate Geometry — distance formula, area of triangle
- Surface Area and Volume — formula-based, easy if practiced
Scoring tips:
- Always write "Given," "To Find," and "Solution" for every numerical. RBSE examiners give marks for this structure.
- Draw figures for all Geometry and Trigonometry questions even if not asked. It shows understanding and sometimes carries extra marks.
- Practice previous year papers from 2020-2026. The question types repeat with different numbers.
Science
RBSE Science covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in one paper.
Physics (high-scoring):
- Light: Reflection and Refraction carry the most marks. Learn the mirror formula and lens formula with at least 5 solved numericals each.
- Electricity: Ohm's law, resistance in series and parallel. Practice circuit diagram questions.
- Magnetic Effects: Solenoid, electric motor, and generator diagrams.
Chemistry:
- Chemical Reactions: Balancing equations is a guaranteed question. Practice 20+ equations.
- Carbon Compounds: Know the difference between ethanol and ethanoic acid. Saponification reaction.
- Periodic Classification: Trends in the periodic table (atomic size, valency, metallic character).
Biology:
- Life Processes: Human digestive system diagram, excretory system, and photosynthesis.
- Reproduction: Flower diagram (must be labeled perfectly), binary fission, budding.
- Heredity: Mendel's experiments, dominant and recessive traits.
Tip: Diagrams carry 2-4 marks each in RBSE Science. Draw them neatly with a pencil and label clearly.
Social Science
This is where RBSE differs most from CBSE. Rajasthan-specific content is unique.
History:
- Indian independence movement (general)
- Rajasthan's role in the freedom struggle (unique to RBSE): Bijolia movement, Kisan Sabha movement, Praja Mandal movement
- Post-independence India
Geography:
- India's physical features, climate, natural vegetation
- Rajasthan's geography: Thar Desert, Aravalli Range, Chambal River
- Resources: minerals, soil types, water resources
Political Science:
- Indian Constitution, fundamental rights, democracy
- Panchayati Raj in Rajasthan (unique to RBSE)
Economics:
- Indian economy: sectors, development, consumer rights
- Rajasthan's economy: major industries, irrigation projects, MNREGA impact
Key point: The Rajasthan-specific chapters are easy marks if you study them. Many students skip them because they are not in NCERT. That is a mistake.
Hindi
RBSE Hindi uses its own prescribed textbook, not CBSE's Kshitij or Sparsh.
Focus areas:
- Prose (gadya) summaries and character sketches
- Poetry (kavya) bhavarth and alankar identification
- Grammar: sandhi, samas, vachan, ling, muhavare, lokoktiyan
- Letter writing (patra lekhan): both formal and informal. Carries 5 marks minimum.
- Essay (nibandh): Practice 10 common topics. Rajasthan-specific topics like "Rajasthan ki Sanskriti" or "Maru Pradesh" are sometimes asked.
English
RBSE English is relatively easier than CBSE English.
Focus areas:
- Reading comprehension (unseen passage): Practice reading passages and answering questions in 15 minutes
- Grammar section: Tenses, voice change, direct-indirect speech, prepositions
- Writing: Letter writing, paragraph writing, story writing
- Literature: Summary and character analysis of prescribed chapters
Tip: English grammar is a reliable 15-20 marks if you practice. Tense conversion and voice change are asked every year.
Month-Wise Plan (October to March)
| Month | Focus |
|---|---|
| October | Complete remaining syllabus. Start practicing previous year papers. |
| November | Solve 1 paper per subject per week. Identify weak chapters. |
| December | Focus on weak chapters. Practice diagrams (Science), numericals (Maths), map work (Social Science). |
| January | Full mock exams (3 hours 15 minutes). Time yourself strictly. |
| February | Quick revision of formulas, definitions, dates. Key Points mode for every chapter. |
| March | Light revision only. Rest. Trust your preparation. |
Common Mistakes RBSE Students Make
- Studying from NCERT instead of RBSE textbooks: The exam is based on RBSE books. NCERT is supplementary.
- Ignoring Rajasthan-specific chapters: These are guaranteed marks that CBSE students do not get. Do not skip them.
- Poor Hindi writing: Many students lose marks in Hindi due to spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Practice writing answers by hand.
- Not using the full 3 hours 15 minutes: Some students finish in 2.5 hours and leave. Use the remaining time to review answers and improve diagrams.
- Skipping previous year papers: RBSE repeats question patterns every year. Solving past papers is the single most effective preparation strategy.
